Last updated: April 21, 2020
J.A. Louvel (“us”, “we”, or “our”) operates the JALouvel.com website (the “Service” or the “Site”).
This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information (data) when you use our Service.
We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
What data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms/subscription to newsletters
The only personally identifiable information (“Personal Information”) that we specifically ask for is your name and email address. This is only for you to give us permission so that we may email you our newsletter or other content you have requested and opted-in to. This information is protected and will not be shared or sold to anyone.
You may unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by contacting us via email and asking to be removed from the list. You can also click unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter.
Cookies
For almost any modern website to work properly, it needs to collect certain basic information on its users. To do this, a site will create files known as cookies – which are small text files – on its users’ computers. These cookies are designed to allow the website to recognize its users on subsequent visits, and are automatically generated.
You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to let you know when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Site. Should you wish to disable cookies, please refer to your browser’s Help function.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
From time to time, we may also use other third party services such as Facebook, Twitter and other social media, the presence of which will be readily apparent from their on-screen icons. In each case, any cookies set by the providers of these services are set by them directly. They are not set by this website and we have no control over them. Please refer to these services’ own privacy policies if you wish to check how they use cookies.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
Your browser sends data whenever you visit our Site, which may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. This data does not identify you personally, but rather provides us with information about how you use our services and engage with us.
We may use third party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this information to help us improve our Site and services for you. The data collected by Google is aggregated to show general trends and does not identify individual users.
Some data will be collected by a newsletter mailing service, which you will have the option to decide if you want to opt-in. This information is protected by us and by the newsletter company. You may unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by contacting us via email and asking to be removed from the list. You can also click unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
We use Mailchimp as our marketing automation platform. When you sign up to receive free content including newsletters and ebooks, the information you provide will be transferred to Mailchimp for processing in accordance with their privacy policy and terms.
